Happy New Year!
I have been in a bit of a slump for a while; hence, I have not posted in a few weeks. But not to worry.
During that time, I have been diligently working on my mental, emotional, and physical health. As part of this process, I became a full vegan a little over one month ago. This comes after years of being an on-again, off-again vegetarian/pescatarian.
A lot of people began eating better, working out, and taking better care of themselves, in general, at the beginning of the year. I have nothing against people who do that. If you make the decision to take care of yourself, it does not matter when it occurs.
Unfortunately, I do not have the luxury of waiting to take care of myself, of holding off until the new year to transition. For that reason, I started veganism about a month in advance of the new year. I believe that at any given point in time, “now” will always be as good a time as any to take care of myself. So, I do not wait for a certain date. I am not, nor have I ever been, in a position to wait. If ever I need to work on my mental or physical wellbeing, I just do it. If I wait, it could be detrimental to my life. And although there are times when I feel like I want my life to end, I do not really want my life to end. That is just my brain tricking me into believing so. I try not to fall for that trick anymore and I do what I need to do to survive, when I need to do it.
Therefore, my resolutions for 2020 and beyond remain the same as always:
- Continue to love myself
- Continue to care for myself
- Continue to persevere
And whether you started your journey to better care for yourself on January 1 or will begin your journey a month from now, I wish you a happy, healthy, new year and many more to come!
