New Year. New Country.

January 2, 2015

Cue fireworks. Cue champagne pop. Cue midnight kiss. “OMG it’s 2014 – this year is going to be awesome”, she posted on Facebook. “OMFG it’s 2014 – this year is scaring the crap out of me and it’s only just begun, and I can’t speak german and I live in Germany, and we have an apartment with no furniture, and I have no job, and I have no friends, and I can’t get my phone working yet because my iPhone is still locked on my freakin Australian phone provider – SHIT!”, she thought.

That pretty much sums it up in a nutshell. The sweet sounds of social media perfection says, I’m fiiiiiine. But let’s be honest, who wants a real status update, you’ll be unfriended and your posts will be blocked before you can say…you get it. The point is – it’s now January 2015, and it’s time for me to share¬†my experience. Because when the clock struck midnight this year, I could and can genuinely say: “This year is going to be awesome!”

Let’s go right back to around August of 2013, Melbourne, Australia.

I travel the world in pursuit of Formula 1 cars and interesting people. I met Halaina in Melbourne when she was still dancing with the Australian Ballet. She really impressed me with her cleverness, her desire to do great things – not to mention her ability as a ballerina. I am a Pom who dived headlong into France 20-odd years ago. I wish that I had written it all down. I am sure that Halaina’s adventures in Germany will be fascinating… And I’ll be following them with interest!
