Simply, truth.

It’s just not that easy. How many times have you been on Instagram, heard that new email ‘bing’ from Blog Lovin’, or found a new pop up blogger to follow that seems just so wise, and so pretty, and so… everything. Well, it’s just not that easy. I have to remind myself (daily, (currently)) that things just don’t happen overnight. Richard Branson said, “There are no quick wins in business, it takes years to become an overnight success”. I thought that when I stopped dancing things would happen faster. It’s not that I thought they would necessarily be simpler to achieve – but I suddenly wasn’t thinking about the time and dedication it takes to sculpt and train the body. Finding people to help you sculpt and train your career is much harder. What’s on paper counts. What people say about you, counts. It’s no longer up to me to get to the gym, to the pilates studio, or to the barre six days a week. It’s up to me to prove myself to others, that they will take a chance on me, endorse me and be willing to put their name on paper in order for my career to flourish. It’s just not that easy. How do you even find which direction to follow?

How Does Change Happen?

March 19, 2015

Waiting for change sucks. It’s a holding pattern. I hate it. I feel like I’m waiting, (no – begging!) for a light bulb moment.

I work in the startup industry and the other day I was reading about innovation. It got me thinking about where ideas come from, the amazing chain reaction of these ideas and the results of innovation that have changed the way we live. I couldn’t help but contemplate this on a human level and how ideas and chain reactions have effected me and caused change. Read More

Success. It’s Different To What I Thought.

March 3, 2015

When you live in a country that doesn’t speak your native language, a good day is the feeling you get when you realise that you’re understanding the world around you, you’re hearing words that actually mean something, and you’re able to communicate in some round about way. What I thought was ‘success’ has completely changed.

No Time Like The Present.

Moving. A word that instils both panic and excitement.

To stand in your home of 10 years, look around and realise that you’re packing and taking only a few things is mildly terrifying. Naturally, the simple solution was to procrastinate by flicking between google maps, tripadvisor and*, and wait for those mysterious packing fairies (wishful thinking?). Well unfortunately for me the packing fairies didn’t come, but here I am telling the story from the other side of the world. I survived!

New Year. New Country.

January 2, 2015

Cue fireworks. Cue champagne pop. Cue midnight kiss. “OMG it’s 2014 – this year is going to be awesome”, she posted on Facebook. “OMFG it’s 2014 – this year is scaring the crap out of me and it’s only just begun, and I can’t speak german and I live in Germany, and we have an apartment with no furniture, and I have no job, and I have no friends, and I can’t get my phone working yet because my iPhone is still locked on my freakin Australian phone provider – SHIT!”, she thought.

That pretty much sums it up in a nutshell. The sweet sounds of social media perfection says, I’m fiiiiiine. But let’s be honest, who wants a real status update, you’ll be unfriended and your posts will be blocked before you can say…you get it. The point is – it’s now January 2015, and it’s time for me to share my experience. Because when the clock struck midnight this year, I could and can genuinely say: “This year is going to be awesome!”

Let’s go right back to around August of 2013, Melbourne, Australia.
